After breakfast, we set off for "The Mouffe" -- the affectionate local name for the Rue Mouffetard Market. The cobblestone Rue Mouffetard is one of the city's oldest streets. It was once a Roman road leading from Paris to Italy.
It was raining, but that might have been an advantage -- it certainly wasn't crowded. Most of the shops along the street had their blinds out so we were often under cover.

The fat dropping down from these roasting chickens spills on to the roasting potatoes at the bottom of the picture. Not so healthy, but OMG, who worries about that when in Paris???
When we got to the square at the southern end of the street, it was time to get out of the rain and have some hot chocolate or coffee at Medard Restaurant (looking out at the Saint Medard Gothic church).
By now, Yvonne and Jean-René had driven into La Mouffe area and met us. We were going to walk to the gardens, but the rain was well and truly set in, so we decided to look for a restaurant for lunch.
By accident, we found La Taverne (23 rue Daubenton) and had the BEST lunch. A small place that looked like nothing from the outside, but the atmosphere inside and the meal were wonderful. We took photos, but they've disappeared!
After lunch, Katrina and Stéphane went exploring. Daryl and I went with Yvonne and Jean-René in their car to our apartment. Yvonne and Jean-René live in a very small village in the middle of France (La Charmée) so they don't know Paris very well. We went by a very circuitous route and laughed a lot along the way. Experiencing Parisian traffic made us feel like we really lived there. It was hilarious, using our broken French, trying to give Jean-René instructions about turning left, turning right or driving straight on.
