Katrina and Stéphane went to the Musée d'Orsay, a museum on the bank of the River Seine. It holds mainly French art, and the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces in the world. Some of the famous names represented there: Cézanne, Gauguin, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh.
We had a restful morning and then met Katrina and Stéphane for lunch at the vegan restaurant, Le Potager du Marais (The Kitchen Garden of Marais). It's small but the meals are amazing and the staff are friendly. Daryl and I had already been there, so we knew it was very busy. I rang and booked a table for 4 people at 2 pm -- and did it all in French! Yeah! It works sometimes!
In this photo, you can see just about the whole restaurant! Yes, it's small. Fantastic food though!
We were full after the main course, but we just had to sample their desserts. We ordered two and shared them. Creme brulée on the left, and chocolate cake on the right (my favourite).
After eating ..... You wouldn't know that Katrina was the one 7 months pregnant!
From Le Potager du Marais, we walked just around the corner to the Stravinsky Fountain. Water action makes all the different parts move. It's a very popular place for people to sit and have lunch. (If you know the area, it's right at the end of the Pompidou Centre. You can see a corner of the Pompidou Centre on the right side of the photo.)
Katrina and Stéphane went to explore other areas of Paris. We walked slowly through the Marais area, trying to find new sandals for Daryl -- no luck. Later, nearer our apartment, he found a 3 euro pair (about $4). They will probably last about 4 days.
Saturday 29 August
We walked Katrina and Stéphane to Gare de Lyon (Lyon Station) and said our "good-byes". Next time we see them, they'll have a baby son -- Daryl's first grandson. (Were the other three crouching to make me look the tallest for a change???)
We spent the rest of the day cleaning the apartment and finally got a taxi to Orly airport.
We stayed at the Orly airport Hilton Hotel so it would be easy for our early flight the next day. At 1/4 to 1 in the morning, I rang reception to complain about people partying and keeping us awake. It almost defeated the purpose of us going to the airport hotel. A hotel, after all, is a collection of bedrooms for sleeping; not bars for partying! I'll be writing to the Hilton when I get home. So there! Now that's my grumpy old man bit over and done with.
